Yoga

What is the level of the class?

The class is mixed level and students are expected to work at their own pace and ability. It is not a competition, just do what your body allows you to do. I will provide modifications to suit your level.

What is the format of the class?

The class starts with relaxation, and then there will be a series of asanas. During the class, I will watch your movements and offer guidance on how to improve. The class finishes with pranayama and relaxation, which will help calm the body and clear the mind.

What should I bring to class?

A yoga mat, blocks and a belt if you have them. If not, there is equipment that can be borrowed.

What should I wear to class?

Loose comfortable clothing (no jeans). Yoga is practiced in bare feet.

I am not flexible - Can I still do yoga?

Of course! You do not need to be flexible to begin practicing yoga. Come as you are and you will find that your yoga practice will help you to become more flexible. No only will you become more agile, but stronger and more co-coordinated.

Why are you supposed to refrain from eating two to three hours before class?

Because all the twisting and bending in the asanas may be uncomfortable on a full stomach. If you must eat, have something light no later than 30 minutes before class.

What are the health benefits?

The health benefits of yoga are numerous. Yoga improves posture, increases oxygen intake and enhances the functioning of all the systems in the body. Mentally yoga calms the mind, reduces stress, sharpens concentration and unifies mind, body and spirit.

How often should I practice?

If you can practice at home or attend other classes you will see improvements sooner. But even if you only practice for one hour a week, you can experience benefits.
